The S-70 Okhotnik-B (Hunter-B) is Russia's first operational heavy stealth UCAV, a joint project between Sukhoi and the United Aircraft Corporation designed to operate as a 'loyal wingman' alongside the Su-57 fifth-generation fighter. First flown in August 2019, the Okhotnik features a large flying-wing design of approximately 14 meters wingspan with smooth blended surfaces, edge-aligned control surfaces, and engine exhaust shielding optimized for low radar cross-section. Powered by a single AL-31F turbofan, it is reportedly capable of reaching transonic speeds and operating at strike altitudes comparable to manned fighters. Internal weapons bays can accommodate a range of air-to-surface munitions.
The Okhotnik program represents Russia's attempt to develop an autonomous combat aircraft that can penetrate defended airspace alongside piloted jets, execute strikes, and suppress air defenses — a concept Western nations are pursuing under various Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA) and Loyal Wingman programs. Video released by Russia's MoD in 2019 showed a joint flight with a Su-57 in which the Okhotnik flew autonomously while the Su-57 pilot maintained situational awareness via datalink. As of 2024–2025, the program remains in advanced development with limited-series production rumored. The Okhotnik's capabilities, if realized at scale, would represent a significant qualitative shift in Russian air power.
